Hanna Rosin: New data on the rise of women

The data shows that women's social position is increasing. 50% of managers are women now. In 1997 communities out of 2000 communities in the US, young women get higher salaries than young men. In 1950s & 1960s, the situation of women was improved a lot because of feminist movement. However, the recent changes are not because of feminist movement but because of economy changes. Economy used to be supported by mainly manufacturing industries. But not it is supported by service industry and information industry. For those industries, women can do better jobs. Due to this economy changes, now the number of couples who want to have sons are decreasing.

Sheryl Sandberg: Why we have too few women leaders

COO of Facebook, Sheryl Sandberg offers advices for women who seek C-level position.
Even though 50% of people are women, they are not 50% of people who are at top level in any industries. 15-16% of C-level is women and this figure has not changed since 2002. Even NPO, only 20% of top position are women.

She said that women tend to underestimate themselves. 57% of men entering in company first negotiate for salary, whereas only 7% of women negotiate for salary. If you ask "why did you do a good job?", men will answer "because I am awesome!" and women will answer "because my team helped me"

Believe in yourself and negotiate for yourself!

Majora Carter: 3 stories of local eco-entrepreneurship

Charitable spending does not mean sustainable solution. She is suggesting to shift charity to entrepreneurship. For example, California spend a lot of money on energy. There is one school who decided to spend more money on air-conditioning. However, a entrepreneur persuaded government not to increase money for air-conditioning but instead to change the asphalt to green park. He said that school can save energy and cost. At the same time, school can recruit someone who maintain park. That's good for society.

Solve big problems with local solutions.
The sum of local is global.
